Reinventing Table Tennis
A customised Table tennis table created as part of the Exhibition Match project curated by the artist Will Nash. Along 5 other customised tables it was showcased outside of the Hayward Gallery during 3 days and visitors were invited to play. At the end of the public event the tables were auctioned.
I used the opportunity of reinventing the game as an excuse to let free my obsession with limbs. By removing the net I made the arms and the rackets themselves the new obstacles. I also created little round holes as traps for the ball to fall down. It was interesting to watch people interacting with the new elements. Eventually a little girl decided to stop using the racket she was given and grab some of the elements on the table to use as rackets instead, unleashing the true potential of playfulness within the absurd customisation.
