These series of ‘Boxes’ were on display at my solo exhibition Hinges in Tripspace, London in 2014. These hinged receptacles gave the name to the exhibition.
Some of the boxes and cases were open, some half-open and others purposely left closed. In this work there is a sense of worlds-within-worlds and the movement between states life and death, where the hinge is the axis of possibility and control.
These compositions seem to both invite and defy decay through combining dismembered parts of domestic items, objects that belonged to the deceased, broken taxidermy and bones.
